GALA DAY

On the 30th of November our school held the annual gala day. During the day i was in the bio box, doing audio & visuals with Karly. I mostly did audio. This consisted of altering the volume of the music based on the quality of the sound. Most of the music quality was poor so i had to ajust the eq to try and increase the sound quality. I also had to ensure that the audio did not exceed the limit (being too loud) and reaching the red light.

Additionally i had to ensure all the the microphones used were functional and loud enough, especially Mr Fuda's (the presenter) and the choir microphones. I also helped karly with visuals when playing a series of videos which were presented on the screen on the back of the stage.

The day worked out really well and everything ran smoothly. Karly and I work well together in the bio box, and we both really enjoy our roles!

JMC Academy Showcase

On the 16th of November JMC Academy held there end of year showcase at the Enmore Theatre Newtown, where all the students combined there studies and put on a performance which was entirely run by themselves it included, Audio Engineering & Sound Production, Digital Media & 3D Animation, Popular Music & Performance, Entertainment Business Management, Digital Film & Television.

My ratings for the event are as follows:

Audio 4/5 The audio was good and produced a high quality level of sound. The speakers used were line array speakers which were located on both the right and left hand side of the stage as well as regular speakers across the front of the stage. The only negative comment to make about audio is regarding the technical difficulties at the beginning of the performance. The audio should have been tested properly prior to the show commencing.

Vision 3/5 The vision system used was a projector that came from the higher level of the theatre towards the back. This was projected on to a screen that was at the front of the stage but was extremely high up. I disliked that the screen was extremely high up on the stage because it was difficult to look at from were we were sitting as we had to look up to the top of the stage everytime, it was not ergonomic.

Lighting 5/5 I found that the lighting was really effective and it really suited the performances. The lighting used were intelligent moving lights which were a constant source of varying colour on the stage, as well as basic parcans which provided a good source of coloured lighting which was suitable to the performances.

Staging 4/5 The stage was used well whilst the students were performing because there was ample space for them to do so. The bands equipment was set up towards the back of the stage and remained behind a curtain when there was not a performance on. I found that the use of the curtain was very effective in presenting the bands. The high level of the stage was also quite good for us to see from where we were sitting.

Venue 2/5 I really disliked the venue, the toilets were unclean and unkept and inside the hall was dirty and very dark, it made me feel quite ill.
