Today was my last day of workplacement :( Originally i was meant to be on NRL day today, however due to a series of circumstances the NRL group was withdrawn and placed in street parade. Today was a very important day for the street parade as the 5pm parade was getting filmed for tv, so our 1pm parade served as a dress rehearsal. We did everything as per normal, washed the cars, cleaned the floats, were briefed and allocated costumes. Today i chose to be a mechanical for both parades and dance along the parade with a new friend i made during my time at the easter show, Mark. Both parades went really well, especially the 5pm parade. The managers gave us really great feedback and thanked us very much for our time. Especially, they thanked the people whose last day it was at the easter show, which it was mine.

I had a really great time doing my workplacement at the easter show. Based on the activities i was surrounded by i have learnt that it is a demanding industry, that requires a lot of time, hard work and devotion, however, it is worthwhile and it is something i believe that i want to be part of. Working at the easter show i have further developed my employability skills of communication and team work, as well as self-management. The easter show was a valuable learning experience and a friendly environment that allowed learning and fun. I learnt a lot of valuable lessons that i will always remember and take with me into the workplace and future. My work placement at the easter show was a great experience, that i will always remember!

Today was a normal street parade day. We had a slow morning, then a lot of fun washing the cars, and cleaning the floats. After this we all sat down in a circle and Andy, the stage manager told us a bit about her life in the entertainment industry and what she has achieved and hopes to achieve, she also went into a lot of detail about the different sectors of the industry which everyone was interested in. This was mostly events management. Andy's speech was really inspiring and really lead me to think about the industry and what exactly i want to do, and how im going to go about getting there. I had so much appreciation for Andy after hearing her experience, she is such a nice person and very good at what she does.

After her speech, we went on to get briefed about the order of the street parade, the floats and designated our costumes. Today i was cannon lady again for the 1pm parade and for the 5pm parade i was a marshall. A marshall is dressed in either a red, green or yellow mechanical suit, and it is their job to make sure no one crosses through the parade whilst its taking place and to ask people to move back if they are in the way of the parade, too close to the parade. It is the mechanicals role to consider the safety of the parade and instruct the public appropriately. However, its not hard work and being a mechanical you have lots of fun, i danced the whole way! After the parade i was exhausted and sweaty, we cleaned up the area as quickly as possibly and were sent home after the managers addressed us, praising us for our efforts in the parade. We were dismissed on a very good note.

Today i was rosted on for ARU day which is Australian Rugby Union, however when we got there they had realised that it was a mistake and the ARU day did not exist. I ended up doing street parade again, which is good, because i love it. Again it was the same routine, a lazy morning followed by washing the cars, then by being briefed on the parade including order and floats, then being assigned costume characters. Today i was alice, from alice in wonderland for both the 1pm and 5pm parades. Alice's costume was a green dress with an apron and a bib, with a little basket to hold.

I did not use any equipment today. Whilst no new employability skills were learnt, i continued the process of further developing my communicational skills and skills of team work. I have learnt that these skills are very valuable and can help you in many circumstances and are especially valuable in the workplace. Additionally, today i displayed initiative in quickly cleaning up our area and asking others to help me, stacking the chairs and hanging up the costumes as quick as possible, without being asked to do so by any of the managers, this meant we got out alot earlier. Street parade was enjoyable as always!

Today was my forth day at the easter show, however it was my third shift of street parade. Today was my second day of actually doing street parade as on my first street parade it rained. As i did street parade the day before i was aware what exactly needed to be done in the day and how it was done. The morning started off slow but by the time 11.30 came around we were designated our costume characters, i was miss broccoli, we were briefed on the parade and its order and then began began to move the fence line, and get changed into our costumes. Miss Broccolis outfit was a green bodysuit, a dress, red heels and a huge broccoli head piece which was really heavy. But it was good because i didnt have to walk, it was my job to sit in a haystack which i was buckled into and again wave at everyone especially the little children. For the 5pm street parade however, I was canon lady again, this was exactly the same as yesterday, it is my favourite role. After both parades the same procedure applied, putting the fences back, helping to bring the floats in and getting changed and cleaning our area. Today was another fun day, i met more great people and had the opportunity to display my personality and passion for the industry throughout the parades which were both really successful.

Today was my third day of workplacement, I was in the street parade. At first in the morning I was a bit worried at how the day was going to turn out or wether i was going to like it, but it ended up being a really great day. After i signed on we all sat around in a group and everyone got to know eachother, we all played games like musical chairs and danced around like we were kids again we had alot of fun, and I made lots of new friends with Kristelle. After our fun and games it was down to business, we had to clean the floats, and wash the three cars that are used for the parades. After this was over it was not long until we were breifed for the 1pm street parade. Here they told us what order the parade would go in, who was performing and then allocated us costume characters. We then had to move the fence line so the public would not go in the set up space, and we then helped to move the floats and cars into order and ready to go. Today I was canon lady for both the 1pm and 5pm street parades, my role was to wave at everyone and blow kisses very over the top especially at the little children, and basically try to get a smile out of them. I didnt use any equipment today, the most i did was put on my costume, and adjust the straps with safety pins to fit me. However today I further developed a very valuable skill, teamwork not only working together to plan and organise the parade, but working as a team when we were performing the parade.

The street parades were very fun i was dressed in a red top, with a red wig, a crown and matching red face paint and I had to climb into the canon and hang out over the top. The street parade went for about 20 minutes. After it my arms were very sore from smiling. After both street parades we had to go inside and get out of our costumes and quickly come back out to help bring in the floats and put the fence back were it belonged and then come inside and clean the area, the quicker we did this, the quicker we got to go to lunch or go home. After each street parade they also gave us feedback about how it was and how it looked and was really good. Street parade was really fun, i really enjoyed it!

Today was my second day of workplacement at the easter show. The weather was terrible today, so this was a major restriction, it resulted in both street parades being cancelled. This means that we had no work to do and there was little opportunity for us to learn new things and develop our skills. The day was very lazy, all we did was sit around and get to know eachother whilst we waited eagerly for the rain to stop, which it didnt. However, there was a period where the rain was only sprinkling for 10 minutes. At this time we went over to the set of the lumberjack show, and wipped down the wet chairs so that people could watch the show, as it was cancelled due to the heavy rain, they decided to put one on during the patch of dry weather. After this it began to rain again so me were sent home. We had our fingers crossed so that the next day, the weather would be nice and sunny and we were able to do a parade!

Today was my first day working at the easter show. It was AFL day, and it was a big success. Today I was supporting the new AFL team Greater Western Sydney Giants. Today involved handing out information sheets on the Giants such as who they were, where they were from, when they were going to begin to start playing etc. We also handed out things such as autograph cards, and freebies such as little tattoos, little footballs, and waterbottles.
No equipment from the entertainment industry was used today, it was pretty much pen and paper and handing out freebies. My main role in the day was to sign people up the support the Giants, and inform people that Israel Fulale would be arriving in the afternoon, so they should come over and grab an autograph etc. Today I really got a feel for enterntainment in sports and leisure. It was a great opportunity for me to work on my communciational skills, talking to people, and convincing them to sign up etc. Because i already have a high standard of comunicational skills, this helped me during the day, and consequently i got lots of people to sign up, it was a bonus! On top of all this the people that I was working for were great, they were really nice and friendly, as well as the people I was working with. I meet some great people and made new friends, it was a great experience!
